(Talent Show Report - The Leicester Mercury Newspaper Article is below)

This is the wonderful letter the Club received from an enormously talented and up-and-coming young Ventriloquist - Jack Gittins - describing his inspiration and enthusiasm for Ventriloquism - how Honorary Club Member Steve Hewlett has inspired, encouraged and helped him - and how he got started in the wacky world of Ventriloquism:

"My name is Jack Gittins and I am eleven years old.  In July 2011 I went to see the Seaside Special Show in Cromer with Steven Hewlett in.  I was totally inspired by Steve and his Act, that when I returned home I spent all my birthday money on a monkey puppet from the 'Puppet Hut' and called him 'Steve'.  We returned to Cromer in August and saw a different Show with Steve Hewlett in and afterwards we met him and told him the story of how I got inspired by him.  He was so impressed;  he gave me his mobile number and email address to keep in touch and said he would help me with Ventriloquism.  In March 2012, I entered my schools talent contest 'Danemill's Got Talent' and got through to the Final!  Out of the about 18 finalists, I came 1st with my Act!!  This led me to star in the schools Summer Fete in June also!!  I couldn't believe it, and Steve was very proud of me and sent me tickets for his October Show for my birthday.  We went to Cromer in 2012 and met up with Steve where he gave me a few tips and met all my puppets, he even invited me to the theatre before the Show to interview him with our puppets - this is on my YouTube account.  In the New Year I went to High Wycombe to see Steve in Panto and he invited me on stage to do Ventriloquism - I loved it, even though it was in front of 1100 people!!  I am always practising and love learning new jokes and routines with my puppets and I am very lucky that I have a brilliant friend and mentor in Steve Hewlett!!  I would love to join The Ventriloquist Club of Great Britain and hope you accept me as one of your members!"

And to Update:

"Since then, I have also performed in a small Family Show to raise money for my Scout Group, and in January 2013, I was invited onto the stage in High Wycombe by Steve Hewlett whilst in Panto, to show off my skills in front of 1100 people!  I enjoy performing and holding conversations with my puppets, trying to include a few jokes and funny banter to make the audience smile.  I have even spent time making sketches and singing karaoke style with my puppets for my YouTube account.  My parents are very supportive.  I am very excited to be your first Junior Member!"

Here's a Quotation from the 'Danemill Primary School Newsletter' - March 2012 Edition:

"Our annual talent show has become an integral part of Danemill tradition and the competition this year was very intense.  The children have been rehearsing for the auditions and during lunch breaks the school has echoed to the sound of music and dance steps! Prizes were given to all the entertainers on the day;  the runners up were the 'Sixties Sisters' and the very worthy winner was Jack Gittins

A huge well done to every child who had a go - you were all brilliant!"
