Here Are Terms & Definitions:
1. The Term 'Ventriloquism' - is derived from the Latin word 'Venter'- which means 'Belly' - and - 'Loqui' - which means 'to Speak'.
Ventriloquists - Performers of Ventriloquism - Were traditionally thought to speak from their belly.
2. A Ventriloquist is a Vocal Entertainer with the ability to create the illusion that a voice appears to come from a Figure/Dummy/Doll/Puppet - or other inanimate/non-speaking object - or from a distance - and not from the Ventriloquist themself.
3. There are two main Types of Ventriloquism:
Near-Ventriloquism - involving usually a Ventriloquist's Figure/Dummy/Doll/Puppet or other object which the Ventriloquist operates
- and -
Distant-Ventriloquism - which may or may not involve a Ventriloquist's Figure/Dummy/Doll/Puppet or other object - sometimes referred to as 'throwing one's voice'.
